LEGION Legion 7

After nearly two months of daily gaming sessions lasting from 3 to 4 hours each day, the Legion 7 by Lenovo continues to showcase its capabilities just as impressive as it did on the first day I unboxed it. It consistently meets all my gaming needs and does so in a stable and reliable manner.

With prolonged usage, more nuanced aspects of the Lenovo Legion 7, such as the lighting effects, screen quality, immersive sound from the speakers, and the highly impressive cooling system, have gradually become more apparent.

Considering its overall performance, external design, and enduring trustworthiness over an extended period, especially with the high-end configuration featuring the RTX 4090 graphics card, the price point of around $1,400 for the Legion 7 seems genuinely reasonable for those with an insatiable passion for gaming.

In this article, we will delve into details about the design, performance, screen and audio quality, keyboard and touchpad, as well as battery life and connectivity ports, and even the webcam of this Lenovo Legion 7 laptop. Design and Exterior

The Legion 7 16ITHg6 possesses an alluring beauty, capable of captivating users at first sight. The machine’s frame design closely resembles its predecessor, the Legion 7 16ARHA7, featuring a deep gray color. However, in this new version, there are some minor changes, such as the redesigned side panels and rear ventilation holes.

The “Lenovo” and “Legion” logos are discreetly printed on the lower right and upper left sides of the frame, respectively, providing a prominent yet elegantly sophisticated appearance. Particularly, when users activate the RGB lighting system, it illuminates every edge and the entire Legion logo on the laptop lid.

The hinge component, crucial for durability and stability, allows flexible rotation and folding of up to 180 degrees. Overall, the build quality of the laptop is exceptionally impressive.

In terms of weight, this Gaming Laptop weighs 6.2 pounds. It is significantly lighter compared to its counterparts in the same segment, such as the Alienware x17, MSI GE76 Raider, Razer Blade 15, and others.

Lenovo Legion 7 Performance
Lenovo Legion 7 Performance

The 2023 Legion Pro 7i is equipped with the latest Intel Core 13th generation chip, delivering significantly superior single-core and multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. This ensures stable gaming and work performance without experiencing lags. The i9-13900HX chip boasts 24 cores and 32 threads, with a core clock speed reaching 5.4 GHz and an E-core speed of 3.9 GHz, providing immense power to handle graphics-intensive tasks and popular online games.

Notably, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU with the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture proves highly efficient, delivering rapid shading, ray tracing, and exceptional AI performance. Paired with 64GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD, the Legion 7 delivers outstanding performance, enabling smooth multitasking and optimizing the user experience.

The Legion 7 targets professionals such as gamers, streamers, and content creators, offering versatile and efficient processing capabilities. Lenovo’s AI processor, combined with the Lenovo AI Engine+ software, ensures optimal performance and real-time system adjustments. The inclusion of the revolutionary LA-2Q AI chip and the intelligent Lenovo Legion AI Engine+ tool helps optimize gaming experiences and stay ahead of the competition.

Display & Audio

The 16-inch 2.5K display, boasting a brightness of 500 nits, provides clear visibility even in low-light environments, ensuring eye protection during usage. With a 16:10 aspect ratio, this model offers an enhanced user experience. Notably, the high-quality 240Hz refresh rate is perfect for gamers, making the Legion Lenovo 7 a standout choice. The accurate color reproduction and 100% RGB saturation meet the demands of gaming, entertainment, and movie-watching. The Legion series delivers meticulous and comprehensive features through its equipped components, providing customers with an immersive experience.

Keyboard and Touchpad

One aspect that I particularly like about the Legion 7 laptop is its RGB Backlit Keyboard. Essentially, users are provided with a full-sized keyboard designed with ample spacing, including the standard key system, along with a dedicated numpad located on the right side of the keyboard. This serves special gaming needs and proves beneficial for work and study, especially for tasks involving extensive numerical data, such as accounting or similar professions.

The navigation keys (arrow keys) are also designed in a full-sized format, corresponding to the other keys for easier use, as opposed to the shrunken arrow key designs on other laptops. When using the keyboard, users will experience a comfortable and clicky feel. In my perception, the key travel is reasonably fitting, and for those accustomed to longer key travel, using this laptop might feel a slightly shallower key travel.

In my personal experience, Lenovo’s layout arrangement, the clicky nature of the keys, and the rarity of encountering key flex issues contribute to a solid and satisfying user experience. I feel confident using the machine for gaming, including titles that require rapid key presses on the A – S – D – W keys, or numerous actions involving the Shift and Space keys.

Although I use the touchpad sparingly, whenever needed, its glass surface provides a smooth and responsive feel, surpassing the experience of using plastic touchpads.

Lenovo Legion 7 Ports
Lenovo Legion 7 Ports

The Legion 7 laptop boasts a versatile range of connectivity options to cater to various user needs. With a total of six ports, including one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1, one HDMI 2.1, one RJ-45, and one Thunderbolt 4, users can seamlessly connect a multitude of peripherals and devices. The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port ensures high-speed data transfer, while the four USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports provide compatibility with a wide array of accessories. The HDMI 2.1 port facilitates external display connections, delivering an enhanced visual experience. The inclusion of an RJ-45 port ensures reliable wired network connectivity.

The Thunderbolt 4 port offers advanced capabilities, enabling lightning-fast data transfer and supporting various peripherals. The laptop also features a convenient Headphone/microphone combo port for audio needs.

Additionally, the Legion 7 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth Combo, ensuring seamless wireless connectivity. To enhance the overall user experience, the laptop comes with an RGB backlit keyboard, allowing users to personalize their gaming setup with vibrant and customizable lighting. In summary, the Legion 7’s comprehensive array of connection ports makes it a versatile and well-equipped choice for users with diverse connectivity requirements.

The 720p webcam located above the display isn’t particularly noteworthy, although it does feature a physical cutoff switch on the right edge of the laptop, a convenient addition. Unfortunately, the Legion lacks both a facial recognition camera and a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello logins, diminishing some convenience in the login process. On a positive note, the laptop’s speakers, situated beneath the palm rest, deliver robust and full sound, enhancing the overall audio experience.

While these limitations don’t detract from the appeal of the Legion, they are factors that users may want to consider when evaluating the features and conveniences of this laptop.

Despite being equipped with a large 99.99Wh battery pack, the laptop only ensures a brief period of operation, approximately 6 hours and 40 minutes of web browsing, and 5 hours and 58 minutes of video playback. This stands in stark contrast to competitors like the MSI Raider GE78 HX and ASUS Strix SCAR 18. The battery test was conducted with the Windows Best Performance setting, screen brightness stabilized at 120 nits, and all other applications turned off except the one being used to assess the laptop.

Even with its high-capacity battery, the limited battery life restricts seamless transitions between daily activities. This could be a noteworthy point for users who prioritize high mobility and need their laptops for extended periods. However, to be fair, we conducted the battery test under optimal performance settings. The reduction in battery life may be influenced by various factors such as detailed configurations and the battery’s aging over time.

The above article is a review of the Legion 7 16ITHg6 laptop, and it’s evident that the Legion 7 continues to be an appealing choice for both gamers and professional content creators. Take a closer look to make the best decision based on your specific needs.
